On a classic windy morning in Wellington, Westpac Stadium opens up it's doors and in pour thousands of characters one would only see on TV, in story books, or even at a rave. The atmosphere is roaring with excitement as beer is passed around, characters get situated and rugby players prepare for a weekend of constant battle. Only one event can bring so many people to one place in New Zealand,
the Sevens Rugby World Series is in town.
An iconic event that New Zealand's capital is proud to host countries to all the way from Argentina to Kenya to Samoa to USA. With fans screaming to their idols and the atmosphere full of spirit, booze and country songs being belted out, it's hard not to get caught up in it all.
The most unique aspect to this event however, is the fan base costumes. Rugby might be what brings everyone together, but it is the costumes that make the entire experience worth while. With fans dressed up as "One Night Stands" to Lego people, it seems that this event could almost put the Super Bowl, dare I say, to shame!
Working along side a very talented photographer, Murray Short, and my film partner in crime, Alex Short, we got to see and document all the unique costumes that fans had put together and watch teams play epic 15 min games of rugby through out the weekend event.
With New Zealand being host to one huge weekend long party, this is an event I would recommend any traveler to experience when they are thinking to come visit the Island of the Long White Cloud.
