Mornings on the Island of the Long White Cloud

Laying awake, no concept of time, and hearing the sleepy birds come to life as the sky starts to turn a soft baby blue, I was suddenly struck with the desire to be outside. Throwing on a hoodie and shorts, I simply walk down the street and instantly feel the sand beneath my feet. Right across the soft waves, Kapiti Island starts to awaken as well. I imagine all the kiwi birds finishing their nocturnal adventures and settling down till the night sky lays above them once again.

The sound of waves in my right ear, the chirping of morning song birds in my left. With the sun slowly waking itself up, the sky turns into a vibrant oil painting developing right in front of me. The sea birds munch on their morning catches and somehow, it feels as if this morning was created just for me.

Dipping my toes in, I am yet again greeted with warmth, the water feels almost bath-like. Walking along the shoreline and keeping to myself not to disturb the very talkative seagulls and red-billed gulls from their missions; I am the only human soul for miles. Picking up curly shells, playing with driftwood, and having the soft sea breeze play with my hair, I am yet again greeted with New Zealand's embracing arms and ask myself, how will I ever find it in myself to leave such a magical place....
